Hi, I'm Aniela.

On July 5th, 2013, I lost my mother to ovarian cancer, a year and a half later I was diagnosed with Stage 1 breast cancer. I was just three days short from my appointment to schedule a preventative double mastectomy. Perfect timing.

Because of the BRCA 1 mutation, I was aware of my risk and gotting checked every six months but I have to admit that I didn't think it would happen to me, especially at 31. I went through with a skin sparing double mastectomy and started chemo. My next step is to remove my ovaries and fallopian tubes. After, watching my mother battle cancer and now having experienced it myself, its not worth the risk. 

My husband/high school sweetheart and two cats, Buddy and Holly, have been my biggest supporters and caregivers through this whole process.

Why My Breast Choice?

My Breast Choice is a lifestyle blog and YouTube series that explores the impact Breast Cancer, a double mastectomy, and chemo can have on a woman's body & soul and uses humor & honesty to go beyond just surviving. Mainly, I needed something to focus on while I went through this, a place to release my creativity and feel useful. My Breast Choice gave me that.
